Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Case Logic CDW264 Nylon 280-Disc CD/DVD WalletCustomer Review: Disc go here, disk go there. Summary: 4 Stars
I've had good experiences with CaseLogic storage products over the years and I feel reasonably confident I'll get several years of use out of this one as well. I do find it amusing the advertising overlay that comes with the wallet indicates the product is covered by a limited lifetime warranty but a check of the website says 25 years, neither of which is particularly important to me as the media it's protecting will most likely be a asterisk in history well before the 25 year expiration date. I'm pretty sure that limited warranty doesn't cover the case zipper as it seems designed to fail if the user happens to be distracted once too often.
The wallet contains 33 sheets with each sheet having 4 protective sleeves on either side, so for those who maintain liner notes overall capacity will in all probability be halved. One downside however, is the sheets are loaded on a locking bracket rather than binder style so re-organization of CD/DVDs, whether alphabetical, artist or genre can be cumbersome when new disks are added. An additional 16 (8 with notes) CDs can be filed on the interior sleeve of the front cover. When filled to capacity the depth of the wallet is nearly 5 inches. Unlike other cases I have owned, the handle on this one is firmly attached by rivets so it's likely to endure frequent use.
I don't purchase many CDs anymore so I got this case primarily for storage of burned DVDs. As far as retail DVD's, the protective sleeves on the insert sheets too small to accommodate most DVD liner notes or information booklets. For consumers who wish to protect retail DVDs and accompanying info, Case Logic DVB200 - Album for CD/DVD discs - 200 discs - koskin - black is an alternative.
Customer Review: This large CD Wallet is excellent. Summary: 5 Stars
There are cheaper brands out there, but in my experience, quality is the true measure of any product. This is especially true when it comes to large CD wallets like Case Logic's CDW-264. As you can imply by the name, this wallet stores up to 264 CDs. I've seen cheaper products that store about the same amount of media, but they aren't as sturdy as this one. This CD wallet uses 2 large plastic slats to hold the each of the 33 pages. (Each page holds 8 CDs.) Other large CD wallets often use flimsy binder-type plastic rings, or the pages are held to the wallet by stitching. Flimsy binder rings can break with age, and stitching can come apart when put under the weight of so many CDs. The CDW-264's flat plastic slats are large and strong enough withstand the wieght of 264 cds easily. I've filled it almost completely with CD-Rs, and it's still sturdy enough to carry by-the-handle (the handle is attached to the spine of the wallet). Even when unzipped, you could easily carry this large CD wallet around without fear of the pages breaking loose. And naturally, the CD pages are smooth and won't cause scratches. What's more, its a great online-buy because it's typically 10-20% less when compared to most retail stores. My only complaint is that the zipper can be difficult to "start" since it rests along the spine. This is where the zipper can make contact with the pages, and you often have to make sure it's clear before zipping the wallet closed. Of course, most people shouldn't find this much of a problem as the over all quality of the CDW-264 wallet is excellent. If you're looking to store a large amount of CD or DVD media, this is should be on the top of your list. It holds a lot of media, it's very sturdy, and it's usually much cheaper online.
Customer Review: Excellent for the Space-Challenged Summary: 5 Stars
I have just about 200 CDs, and for the longest time (read, about a decade!) I've been using a tower in order to keep them all organized. Oh, was I misled by the supposed convenience of towers! It was bulky, heavy, always getting dusty, and it took up a lot of space in my little room. Plus when it came time for me to pack up for college, I couldn't fit something that big in the car, let alone in the teensy tiny dorm room!
Enter Case Logic's nice big wallet. In a matter of an hour after its arrival upon my doorstep, my space woes were a thing of the past. Out the door went all of the jewel cases, and now all of my CDs fit very nicely on my bookcase. What's more, I have space to spare in the wallet, and this wallet is EXPANDABLE - if necessary you can purchase extra sleeves (I believe Case Logic recommends no more than 5 extra, but it seems like there'd be room for more - if you follow the 5 extra guideline, that's 40 CDs - plenty of space before the wallet would just start getting too heavy).
What's more, the price was quite reasonable, especially given that it seems to be a nice durable container. I also like the fact that the CD sleeve holes are nice closed off slots - I've bought more than one smaller CD carrying case where the slots are open and are supposed to "snap on" to the case's rings. They always fell off, and these won't so long as you close the rings themselves properly. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to those who, like me, are space-challenged and need something portable.
Customer Review: an case to hold an obsolete product Summary: 1 Stars
don't spend another $25 to hold all your cd-s. if you really love music (and i assume that anyone is thinking about buying a 264 disc cd case does) then you should get an ipod. yes, you will have to pay more, but it's SO worth it. you would be able to fit all the cd's that would fit into this gigantic case on a 20gb ipod which weighs just six ounces. (you don't have to download from iTunes! you can just copy the cd's you already have onto your computer and then download the songs saved on your computer to your ipod, all using the most simple software you've ever used. if you can use microsoft word, you will be able to use iTunes.)
even if you don't want to listen to your music on just headphones, you have plenty of options. you can buy an fm transmitter (which plugs into your ipod and transmits the music to a slot on the radio that isn't being used.) although the sound quality will be lower, it's completely wireless. other options include cassete adapters (which work similarly, but have a wire) and also connecting directly to your car stereo, which can most likely be done at your local car dealership. for bmw owners, your car may be compatible with even more features, such as controlling your ipod from your steering wheel controls, etc.
for home stereos, you can buy a y-audio cable that goes from the headphone jack of your ipod to two outlets in the back of pretty much every stereo out there.
in 2004, there is really no reason to be lugging around a giant cd binder.
Customer Review: Very well made, but CD sleeves are tight and dividers rough Summary: 4 Stars
I have this bag and just ordered another. It is really made well. The zipper is steel and I have no trouble opening and closing my year old bag and the handle is excellent. The pages are securely attached and I don't worry about them falling out when I carry the bag around even if it isn't zipped closed, or opening it on my lap. It opens easily and completely, even completely full. There is plenty of room to flip through all the pages to look through the book. There is even room in the very back of the bag to hold a couple of my CDs that I need to keep in the jewl case. I do have a bag by mainstays that I like better but they don't hold this many discs and the bags are hard to find anymore. The only things I don't like about this bag are the pockets that hold the CDs or DVDs are real tight so you have to slide the CD, on the rough service, in and out. I'm always concerned I'm going to scratch the disc. (The mainstays sleeves are larger with a flat that goes over the top of the CD to keep them from ever falling out so you don't have to slide the disc against the back service to get it in and out.) Also, the matterial that divides the CDs front to back, seem rough to me, instead of soft and protective, though I've never damaged a CD yet, but I worry about sliding my CDs in and out too often. I think it's a good buy and the bag is so well made that it makes up for the draw backs.
