Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Case Logic CDW264 Nylon 280-Disc CD/DVD Wallet

Customer Review: Excellent quality
Summary: 5 Stars

I've got several kinds of CD-Wallets from differing brands and this CASE LOGIC is by far the best quality. This is basically a sort of binder with large plastic bands that function as the "rings." These bands are quite sturdy and better than other CD-Wallets that I've used. The bands hold the pages of the CD-Wallet. Each of the 33 pages has 8 pockets (4 pockets on each side of a page). The pockets are made of a woven fiber material that is smooth and won't scratch CDs. Furthermore, the pockets can also fit liner notes. (While most liner notes should fit, thick ones maybe more difficult to insert because the pockets are rather tight.) A zipper on the outside of the wallet closes it neatly. There's also a handle on the outside for easy carrying. I bought this product to store my DVD-Rs and CD-Rs (which were cluttering my work space). It works great. CASE LOGIC tends to be a bit more expensive than other brands, but it's worth it. They're products tend to be consistenty strong and worry free, and this one is no exception. Other, cheaper brands are often made of cheap material; and fall apart with the shear weight of the CDs. If you plan on storing a lot of media (CDs, DVDs, CD-R, DVD-R), then this 264 capacity CASE LOGIC should be on the top of your shopping list. It's strong, can hold a lot of media, and you can carry it easily.

Customer Review: No more hunting for CD-ROMs
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this to store my CD-ROMs in after one too many irritating searches for a CD to reinstall something. I was hoping it would have metal binders like my MSDN CD wallet, but they're flat and plastic instead. But it seems like fairly sturdy plastic. The binders can be opened pretty easily, which means you can remove and sort the pages. I found it easier to put the CD-ROMs in initially by removing all the sleeves first. You get eight CDs per page, four on each side.

As others have said, this thing is enormous. Lay out four CD cases, 2 by 2, and that's about how big it is, and at least three inches thick. So be sure that you want one that large. It seems pretty sturdy, but I have to concur with what others have said about the zipper. It slides around easily once you get it going, but it's hard to get going; it gets sort of stuck and you have to wiggle it a bit to get it to move. I suspect that if you're not careful to make sure it's all the way unzipped before you open the case, it'll start to weaken.

By the way, if you're using it to store CD-ROMs, don't forget to get the keycodes off the CD cases/sleeves before you pitch them! Better yet, don't pitch them; enter the CD keys in a program where you can look them up, and then stick the original cases in a box somewhere as backup.

Customer Review: Worse purchase you can make
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this wallet at a store some years ago and kept CD's and DVDs in it. It seemed convenient, especially for travel. However after using for a couple of years I DEEPLY regret it. And its not because the zipper broke, not because the pockets rip and not because the sleaves rip out of the binder. My biggest complaint is that it DESTROYS your CDs and DVDs. This is pretty much the case with most CD/DVD wallets, however, this one seemed to do the job exceptionally well. The problem is when a little bit of dirt or dust gets in between the disk and the pocket and scratches the hell out of it. And any burned CD won't make it more than a week or two since if any dirt gets between two pages, it will scratch the surface film off of the disk which is were all the data is stored. Additionally, the felt backing of each pocket seems particularly abbrasive and scuffs the disk as well. The end result, you put 280 discs in this wallet which can roughly translate to $2000 to $4000 worth of discs that you've spent a long time collecting.

Don't make the mistake of keeping them in such a wallet. You will destroy your property.

Customer Review: A good way to store a large CD collection
Summary: 4 Stars

I have yet to find an ideal CD storage system, but this is better than most. It means you don't have to keep all those jewel cases. It is well-made and ideal for home storage. If you want to take your favorite CD's on your travels, you might prefer to buy a smaller version that will hold just enough CD's to keep you entertained while you are away from home. This case, when full, might be too heavy and bulky for travel convenience.

A major disadvantage is that it does not hold any of the paper so it is necessary to store the booklet and backing separately. Also, because the rings holding the wallets are sealed, you cannot rearrange the wallets as you expand your collection. This makes it difficult to organise your CD's so that they are easy to find. Everybody can find their way round that problem, but it would be handy to have rings that open like normal ring files.

I am still hoping that somebody will produce a really good storage system that caters for large CD collection at an affordable price. In the meantime, this will do.

Customer Review: Good for lots of disks...
Summary: 5 Stars

When I used my CD player and had a bunch of CD's I bought & downloaded from iTunes it was great to have. Once I got my iPod I got rid of the CD's, but still found another use for it.

I now use it to store all my movie disks. I don't have a large movie collection, (like over 60) but a lot of the movies are two, three, four disks each so its still nice to have the space to put them all. And I don't really have the space for a DVD stand to store them in so I had to stack them on top of each other, and trust me after awhile it became slightly annoying to half to dig through the stacks of cases to find a movie. Now they're all flat in front of me in the CD wallet. It's great.

There is one small caution; the CD wallet does get heavier when it's got a lot of CD's in it. I can't complain too much about the zipper because I rarely use it (I don't carry it around much so why bother zipping it up?) If you're looking for a good place to store any kind of disk, this would be a great choice.
